GPS / Telematics Integrations

Fleetio integrates with multiple GPS / Telematics Partners to provide valuable fleet tracking data directly to your Fleetio Account. Connected devices can communicate meter readings, vehicle locations, and alerts for reported Faults and Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

In addition to staying on top of meter-tracked maintenance services, integration allows you to reduce manual data input time, effort, and errors.

How do you know which provider is right for you? The answer will vary depending on the specific needs of your organization. Review the feature comparison chart below, and reach out directly to each provider for cost information and availability in your region.

Integration Types and Setup

There are two types of Fleetio integrations: Native and API.

Native Integration

Fleetio offers native integration with some third-party providers. Native integrations are built by Fleetio, and this allows for easy setup through your Fleetio Account. Support for native integrations is provided by the Fleetio Support Team.

API Integration

An API is a set of tools and communication protocols that enable separate software systems to communicate. API integrations are built by the third-party telematics provider using Fleetio's open API. These integrations typically require a few simple steps on your end, and support and setup assistance is typically handled by the third-party provider who built the integration.

Fleetio customers also have the option to develop their own custom API integration, which offers Fleetio users significant flexibility to integrate with external systems.

IMPORTANT: Fleetio GPS/Telematics integrations are not compatible with 3G devices.

Data Transfer / Update Frequency

Upon initial configuration, Fleetio does not pull any historical data from the integration. New data is imported moving forward.

Native Integrations Data Updates

For native integrations, Meter Entries are imported nightly at midnight based on your account's time zone.

Fuel Entries are imported nightly.

Vehicle Location updates are imported nightly, but there may be additional entries -- most providers check for location updates with every meter update. A new Location Entry will only be logged if it has been more than 15 minutes since the previous entry.

Meter Readings and Vehicle Location may be manually refreshed on an as-needed basis.

TIP: Multiple Meter Entries with the same Date and Meter Reading may simply indicate that Fleetio has pulled the most current data available from the device. Learn more in the GPS Integrations - Advanced Meter Topics article.

DVIR/Inspection Defects are imported hourly.

Faults/DTC Alerts are imported nightly by default but may be configured for hourly updates, and may also be manually refreshed on an as-needed basis.

API Integrations Data Updates

The frequency of data transfer for API integrations varies by third-party provider; please refer to each provider directly for details!

Regional and International Availability

Some telematics providers offer services outside the United States: Geotab, Fleet Complete, KeepTruckin, Samsara, Telemax, Teletrac Navman, Verizon Connect Reveal (Fleetmatics), Webfleet Solutions, and Zubie may be solutions in your area. For the most current regional availability, contact the provider directly.

Telematics Health & Usage Report Email

Each week, Fleetio will send an email to Account Owners, Administrators and Regular Users with permission to manage GPS devices. This summary will include how many unmapped devices you have, a list of devices and total counts for device type.

NOTE: While this email summary will be available to other integrations in the future, it is currently only available to accounts with a Native integration.

PERMISSIONS: Only Account Owners, Admins and Regular Users with permission to Manage GPS Integrations under Integrations in their Role will have access to this email.
