Who owns a Fleetio Account?
A Fleetio Account is owned by a single User. When you sign up and create a Fleetio Account, you are the Owner of that Account and all of the data in it.
How do you change the Account Owner?
Current Account Owners are the only people who can assign a new Owner to the Account. Our legal responsibility is to the Owner, so we won’t let other people take over the Account without the current Owner's permission.
An Account Owner can assign an existing User to be the new Owner as shown in the Billing & Subscriptions article. When you designate someone else as the Account Owner, they will have the power to manage all aspects of your Fleetio Account, and you will no longer be the Owner. Fleetio accounts can only have one Owner.
NOTE: The NEW Account Owner must be a User in Fleetio with a valid, confirmed email address.
IMPORTANT: Changing the Account Owner does not remove or modify the credit card or the billing contact information (including the email address where statements are sent).
The Account Owner (or any Administrator user with “Manage Billing” permissions) can edit the credit card on file and the billing contact information as shown in the Billing & Subscriptions article.
What happens if the current Account Owner is not available?
The Account Owner may be unavailable for any number of reasons. Still, our obligation is to the current Account Owner. That means we’re unable to change Owner without his/her permission, communicated via the email address we have on file.
If the account has been frozen due to non-payment for less than a week, we’ll be glad to thaw the account for a week so that users can access their data in the meantime.
If the current Account Owner cannot make the change themselves:
- We can reach out to the current Account Owner at the email address we have on file and request permission.
- If it’s a company email address and another employee has access to the inbox, the person who receives the email can grant permission to add a new owner.
- For security, permission must come from the email address we have on file for the current Account Owner.
- As a last resort, we will accept an ownership change request from at least TWO Administrator Users on the Account.
- The ownership change requests must be from the email address associated with the Users’ Fleetio Accounts and must include both the current Owner’s email address as well as the new Owner’s email address, matching their existing User in Fleetio.
