Tool Types

Tool Types offer a way to group similar tool assets in Fleetio. The Tools Index allows you to Filter based on Type, making Tool Types a powerful way to categorize your Tools.

PERMISSIONS: Account Owners and Administrators can manage Tool Types. Learn more in the User Management Overview article.

Managing Tool Types

Fleetio includes many pre-defined Tool Types, such as Generator, Mower, Trailer, Edger, and more. You have the option to Edit or Delete these types, as well as Add your own custom types to suit your needs.

To access Tool Types:

  1. Go to your Account Menu and select Settings.

  1. In the Settings sidebar, click Tool Types in the Tools section.

The Tool Types page includes the Name of your Tool Types and a Usage column (a) to display the number of active and/or archived vehicles of each type.

To add a new Tool Type, click the + Add Tool Type button (b). Enter the Tool name in the pop-up and click the Save button.

To edit or delete an existing Tool Type, click the More Actions Button (c) for that Type and select Edit or Delete.

IMPORTANT: A Tool Type may only be deleted if no active or archived Tools are associated with it.

Setting a Default Tool Type

You can set any single Tool Type to be the Default. This will automatically select this Tool Type when adding new Tools to Fleetio, but you will still have the ability to change the Type at any time.

To set a Tool Type as the default, check the Default checkbox when creating a new Tool Type or editing an existing Type.

Filtering by Tool Type

Once Tool Types are being used, the Tools Index page in Fleetio provides you with Filter options to narrow the results displayed by Tool Type. To use the Tool Type filters, go to the Tools Index by selecting Tools on the Sidebar Navigation. Click the Tool Type filter to view a list of your Tool Types. Select one or multiple Types from the list and click the Apply button.
