Fleet Managers know that laying the foundation for a thorough yet efficient Preventative Maintenance schedule for each Vehicle in the fleet can be time consuming. While general needs can be established by vehicle type, each vehicle may have unique needs according to the manufacturer recommendations, along with your specific environmental conditions.
Fleetio partners with MOTOR Information Systems to pull in the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) recommended maintenance schedules for your vehicles. This gives you a framework to build comprehensive PM programs to meet your specific needs, right from your Fleetio Vehicle Overview!
NOTE: Manufacturer Recommended Service schedules are only available for Light, Medium and Heavy Duty vehicles with a North American VIN.
Prepare Fleetio Vehicles
Identification of the appropriate schedule is based upon the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), so if you have not yet done so, be sure to record VINs for each of your vehicles in Fleetio.

TIP: Fleetio's VIN Decode is a fast and powerful way to import detailed vehicle specifications!
View Manufacturer Recommended Service Schedules
The OEM Service Schedule is available when selecting a Service Program for the Vehicle. This can be done when creating/editing the Vehicle or when selecting a Service Program from the Vehicle Overview. The process is the same regardless of where the OEM Service Schedule is accessed.
While creating or editing the vehicle, navigate to the Maintenance section (a).
You have two options available for OEM Service Programs:
Suggested (b)
- A Suggested Service Program is a Service Program that already exists on your account and is closest to the OEM Service Program based on year/make/model.
- A suggested program is always originally OEM-generated, not a service program that was manually created.
- If there are multiple Service Programs with similar year/make/model info, the one with the highest vehicle count will be suggested.
OEM Schedule (c)
- If an OEM Service Schedule is found for the Vehicle's VIN, this will be displayed as an option with the label "OEM Schedule".
- If the Service Schedule is not found, you will receive a message indicating that a match could not be found.

Selecting the OEM Schedule option will bring up a new screen to generate a Service Program based on the OEM schedule.
You'll be able to choose a name for the Service Program (a) or select from suggested names (b). Toggle the schedule severity (c) and select the desired tasks from the OEM recommendations (d). The most commonly scheduled services will selected by default.
The recommended schedule is displayed in the left column (d). You can select from this list to add to the Service Program. The selected services are shown in the right column (e). The Service Program will generate Service Reminders from these selected services.

TIP: To learn more about creating Service Programs, see the Service Programs Overview article.
FAQs
Should I use the Normal or Severe schedule?
Service Schedules may be available in two Schedule Types: Normal or Severe. Environmental and usage factors determine the best application for each vehicle, so if you are unsure of the appropriate schedule type, check your owner's manual.
How many services should I select from the OEM schedule?
Setting the correct due meters and dates for every service required by the OEM can quickly become overwhelming. Most customers are successful with a subset of OEM recommended services. While we can't recommend the exact services to schedule; we can recommend that you pick a balance between excessive data entry and critical maintenance requirements. To track the other less critical services, you may schedule a custom Service Task on the Vehicle.
