IMPORTANT: EV Charge Tracking is in beta, which means it's still a work in progress.
Using Fleetio's EV Charge Tracking feature, fleets adopting electric vehicles will be able to capture and review their EV charging to better understand how it impacts their total operating costs.
New Charging Entry
- Select Fuel & Energy from the sidebar navigation and click Charging History.
- Click + New Charging Entry.

- Enter the below details in the form (all fields with a * are required):
- *Vehicle: Only vehicles that are determined to be EVs will appear in this list.
NOTE: EVs are determined by the Fuel Type in their Vehicle Details. If the fuel type is blank or an unknown type, Fleetio will still display the vehicle in the list since the fuel type could be electric.
- *Charging Started - The date and time you started charging the vehicle
- *Charging Duration - How long the vehicle was charging (e.g. 60 minutes)
- *Total Energy - Energy in kWh
- Energy Price - Cost per kWh
- Reference - Invoice, Transaction Number, or Flag for Personal use
- Custom Fields (if applicable)
- You can also add Photos, Documents, and Comments.

- Click Save Charging Entry to save or Save and Add Another to save and open a new blank form.
Charging History Index
The Charging History Index shows the total charging cost, total energy, average energy economy, and average cost, along with a detailed record of charging entries. The index can be filtered by specific vehicle, vendor, etc.
- Under Fuel & Energy in the Sidebar Navigation, select Charging History.
- In the Index, you can do the following:
- Select any entry to view more details (a)
- Click the More Actions Button (b) to View, Edit, or Delete a Charging Entry.
- Click the More Actions Menu (c) to Import Charging Entries (d) or Export Charging Entries to a CSV (e).
Charging Entry Details
Click a Charging Entry in the Charging History Index to view its details.
Here, you can view the Charging Entry Details (a), Cost Breakdown (b), and Location (c) where the charge took place, if available.
- Click Watch (d) to become a Watcher of the entry.
- Click the More Actions Button (e) to View the Record History or Delete the Entry.
- Click Edit (f) to edit the Charging Entry.
Charging Entry Import
If you want to import Charging Entries for your vehicles into Fleetio, you may import directly from the Charging History Index or follow the directions below to use our import tool.
- Go to your Account Menu and select Imports.

- Click Browse Import Templates.

- Select Fuel from the import types.
- Under Charging Entry, click Download and select the Empty Template.

The following fields are required in the import:
- Vehicle or VIN
- Duration
- Start Time/Date
- Total KwH
Charging Entries in Total Cost of Ownership
On the Overview tab of the Vehicle Details page, you can view specific energy data related to the vehicle on the Cost of Ownership card. Here, you can view the energy costs that have been calculated for a period of time.

Automated Charging Sessions with Geotab
Automated Charging Sessions gives Fleetio the ability to use sensor data from Geotab to determine when your EVs are charging. Fleetio then uses that sensor data to automatically create a Charging Entry.

IMPORTANT: Automated Charging Sessions are only available to customers with a Geotab Integration.
