Vehicle Replacement - Lifecycle Details

Better understand how long vehicles stay in your fleet and your adherence to organizational replacement policies. Lifecycle Details enable you to track when a vehicle enters fleet service, how long you expect it to remain in your fleet and when it leaves your fleet. Accompanied visualizations make it easy to see how close a vehicle is to its expected end of life.

The following data fields are available to add via Import, or by editing a Vehicle record by going to the Vehicle menu, selecting the vehicle and clicking the Financial tab.

  • In-service Date: Date vehicle entered active fleet service
  • In-service Odometer: Primary meter reading on in-service date.
  • Estimated Service Life in Months: Number of months vehicle is expected to be in active fleet service.
  • Estimated Service Life in Primary Meter Units: Final expected value of primary meter when vehicle retires from fleet service.
  • Estimated Resale Value: Amount expected to be recuperated after retirement and sale/disposal (less any associated costs).
  • Out-of-Service Date Date vehicle was retired from fleet service.
  • Out-of-Service Meter: Final primary meter reading on out-of-service date.

NOTE: Both In-Service Meter/Date and Estimated Replacement Meter/Date must be present for visualizations and calculations to work.

Monitor vehicle age compared to replacement estimates

Fleetio will show you when a vehicle is approaching the end or has passed its useful lifecycle. The stages are as follows:

Vehicle has plenty of time remaining

You will see a notification of what percentage the vehicle is currently through of its estimated life. There will also be two bars showing the current date and primary meter reading relative to the vehicle's expected end of life.

Vehicle approaching expected end of useful life

Once the vehicle is approaching its estimated service life, you will see a notification in Lifecycle Details.

Vehicle past expected end of useful life

After estimates have been exceeded, a notification will inform you that the vehicle has run for longer than was originally estimated and the percentage it has exceeded its expected useful life.

Vehicle placed out-of-service

Once you de-fleet an asset and input the out-of-service date and primary meter reading, you will see summary information about how long the vehicle lasted compared to expectations. This can be incredibly useful when analyzing how closely your organization's replacement policies are followed.
